Panel Discussions 2002–2011

I have plenty of experience both participating in and chairing panel discussions on news and current affairs, media industry issues, books, film and television. Apart from my Live in the Studio panels at ACMI, here are some I appeared on between 2002 and 2011.

2011: Panellist in student and youth broadcaster SYN’s ‘Music Reviewing Workshop’ at Signal, a creative studio for young people. In 2008, I also spoke with SYN volunteers on music reviewing.

2011: ‘Art Attack’ panel discussion, as part of youth literary organisation Express Media’s weekend workshop for Buzzcuts reviewers.

2011: Cinema Nova ‘Page to Picture’ panellist on Cary Fukunaga’s literary adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre.

2010: Panellist on film reviewing in the Wheeler Centre’s provocative ‘Critical Failure’ program. Watch the panel session.

2010: Cinema Nova ‘Page to Picture’ panellist on Tomorrow When the War Began, the film adaptation of John Marsden’s cult favourite young adult novel.

2010: Emerging Writers’ Festival panellist in the session Taking It Online, which debates the forms and practicalities of writing on the internet.

2010: Writing For The Web panellist at the Victorian Writers’ Centre (now Writers Victoria), alongside author Max Barry.

2009: ‘Writing In The Pub’ freelancing discussion forum at the Emerging Writers’ Festival. Later that year, I contributed a chapter on pitching freelance stories to The Reader, the festival’s writers’ resource book.

2005-6: I spoke on freelancing at the National Student and Emerging Media Conference and the National Young Writers’ Festival in Newcastle. I was also travel and accommodation coordinator for NYWF in 2006.

2004: I spoke on celebrity and fashion at the ‘Divas, Dudes, Dolls and Droids’ public forum, part of the L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival‘s Cultural Program.

2002: I spoke about my research on Ned Kelly at an Ian Potter Museum of Art public forum on bushrangers.
