Talking Girls On Screen at ACMI

On Friday 14 October, 2016, I spoke on a Wheeler Centre panel at ACMI, titled YAS KWEEN: Girls on Screen. Hosted by comedian Judith Lucy, this panel discussed depictions of girls on screen, from the US hipster visions of Girls and Broad City to the paucity of diverse TV role models for Australian girls. Can we see ourselves in these characters? Who is left out in representations of girls on screen? What power do these representations hold over our imaginations? And could there ever be a show about girls as gross as The Inbetweeners?

I spoke alongside writer Jessica Knight, writer and musician Billie Tumarkin, and performer Candy Bowers. Here’s a snapshot of me with other panellists in the ACMI green room:

Just did a @wheelercentre panel event at @acmionline with these total legends! #yaskween
